If you have been diagnosed with an abnormal pap smear, your doctor may perform a colposcopy. The provider will look through a special magnifying scope to view your cervix. The provider may need to take a small biopsy depending on what is seen. LEEP is the procedure you will have if your doctor determines the need for treatment of the abnormal pap smear. This involves removing a small portion of the cervix. This may be done in the office under local anesthesia. Not all abnormalities require treatment. If you have been diagnosed with an abnormal pap smear, your doctor may perform a colposcopy.
Many women have heavy or irregular periods, but there are treatment options available. Endometrial ablation is a quick, in-office treatment for heavy bleeding. It is an alternative to hysterectomy for many women who wish to avoid a major surgery.
When a gynecologic problem requires surgery, the surgery can often be completed laparoscopically. A camera is placed through a small incision in the abdominal wall, and small instruments are used to operate on ovarian cysts, ectopic pregnancies, fallopian tubes, adhesions, or endometriosis lesions. This approach allows the patient a shorter recovery and shorter stay in the hospital, often allowing her to go home the same day.
If a patient needs a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus,) this procedure can often be done laparoscopically. A camera is placed through a small incision in the abdominal wall, and small instruments are used to separate the uterus, with or without removal of the tubes and ovaries. This approach allows the patient a shorter recovery and shorter stay in the hospital, which can end as early as the next day.
Many women suffer from pelvic floor dysfunction, vaginal laxity, incontinence, vaginal dryness or sexual dysfunction as a result of aging, pregnancy or change in hormone production. Votiva is an FDA-approved, non-surgical, non-hormonal, and minimally invasive device that can treat these symptoms.
If you’ve experienced any of the conditions we’ve described, please contact us for more information about the treatments we have available.
