Abnormal Pap Smear Management
Abnormal pap smears are often a result of infection with HPV, or Human Papilloma Virus. Infection with HPV is very common. Many types of HPV exist, some of which are considered “high risk.” Chronic infections with these high-risk types may go on to cause cervical cancer if left untreated.
Heavy or Irregular Periods
Abnormal uterine bleeding refers to menstrual bleeding that is of abnormal quantity, duration, or frequency. Some causes of irregular bleeding include fibroids, polyps, endometriosis, ovulatory dysfunction, hyperplasia, and uterine cancer. After proper evaluation, there are many treatment options available including hormonal treatment, IUD, and endometrial ablation.
Overactive Bladder
Women with overactive bladders complain of urinary urgency, frequency, frequent voiding at night, and sometimes urgent incontinence.
Stress Incontinence
One out of three women suffer from stress urinary incontinence due to loss of support of the urethra. Women with stress incontinence may experience leaking when laughing, coughing, sneezing, or during activities such as running and jumping.
Vaginal Laxity/Pelvic Organ Prolapse
Both pregnancy and childbirth as well as menopause can contribute to the loss of strength and flexibility of the vaginal wall, leading to vaginal laxity and pelvic organ prolapse.
We provide hormone replacement counseling and treatment as well as non-hormonal alternatives for the treatment of menopausal symptoms.
Vaginal Atrophy
The change in hormone levels from menopause, breastfeeding, or breast cancer treatments can lead to changes in the vaginal tissue that can lead to dryness, pain with intercourse, and decreased sensitivity. Other women experience urinary urgency, painful urination, or recurrent urinary tract infections.
